And yet, another Mets loss...
…even with Big Pelf on the mound the Mets couldn’t shake out a win. And then of course there’s the daily injury news that we learned that Ollie is out for the year. To be fair, I am not sure that that news is either that shocking or disappointing.
Have you seen the projected line-up lately? You should be sure to check it out, make sure you know what day you’re starting!
On My Lack of Updates...
@Mr_Met is still suspended on Twitter, which is entirely frustrating…almost but not as much as this Mets team.
As I write this update, Sheff was just taken out of the game…and that’s on the heels of Santana going down for the season earlier today & Perez potentially set-up to miss his next start.
Just many frustrations where ever you look…always Believe!
...
Yet Another Tough Loss
After a great outing from Tim Redding the Mets dropped tonight’s game to the Phillies 4-1.
The loss is tough since Redding put up 5 strong innings…yet it just doesn’t feel like a big loss to a divisional rival, since the team that went out there tonight in Mets uniforms looked nothing like the one that’s helped build thus rivalry over the past few years.
It’s too...
Sheff & An Extension?
Do you think Sheffield deserved an extension beyond this year?
I tend to think that it’s best that if after this year’s campaign the Mets and Gary part ways…he’s been a nice additon for this season…and it completed that sentimental story of Doc’s nephew playing for the Mets. However, as we turn the page toward 2010 it’s time to start looking younger and...
Twitter has silenced @Mr_Met...
…you can help though by joining the Save @Mr_Met Campaign by posting this to Twitter “I love @Mr_Met, Please Unsuspend His Twitter Account! Please RT!”….
Anyway, until such a time when we can get Twitter reinstated I will be posting my typical commentary and updates here.
Now, onto more important things, how did it feel to see Billy Wagner run out for the first time at The Citi?...
@Mr_Met Goes Silent...Help!
To @mr_met’s fans…for some reason Twitter has suspended my account and made it impossible for me to chat with you about last night’s miserable loss, or for that matter on any topic. I have submitted a complaint to have my account reinstated, since I have followed all of Twitter’s rules and not engaged in any strange or malicious behavior.
That said, since my voice is now...

User Submission: An Ode to Mr. Met
By Tom Keenan
The Hall of Famer with a giant head,
A true blue heart with orange thread.
A smile meant to bring laughter and joy,
Of this, enouge just cannot be said.
Mr. Met brought on a smile for my little boy, Who looked up in wonder at this living toy.
His smile would last for hours to come,
Asleep he would fall to hapiness cloy.
Traditionalist against him beat the drum, With nothing...

User Submission: Resting The Team...
This season is over. The Mets should do whatever they can to be sure they are competitive next year. They shoud also stop going after aged stars, i.e. Delgado and Castillo.
Beyond that, I understand the Mets are lowering prices. What about those of us who bought tickets in advance at full price?

User Submitted: It's Management Not Martinez
You don’t want to hear my thoughts on Martinez pitching for the Phills… But there is a bigger than injuries reason that the Mets are 11 games out of first place and the Phills have been #1 most of the season… I’m not saying that Martinez is our answer, but neither is Omar.. When upper management gives up on the team half way through the season it is hard to watch the...

User Submission: Mets Need a Wholesale Rebuild!
We will need a new catcher next year, Adam LaRoche at 1B, Orlando Hudson or Chone Figgins at 2B, Reyes and Wright at SS and 3B, an outfield of Francouer, Beltran, and a big power hitting LF. Jason Bay, Carl Crawford, or Matt Holliday. And, yes, we will need to go after a bonafide #2 pitcher. Delgado, Wagner, Schnieder, Sheffield, Tatis, Cora, they all need to go. I would keep Pagan for the bench....

Patch Things Up, Don't Need a Wholesale Rebuild
Submited by Patrick:
No the Mets do not need to wholesale rebuild. With Delgado, Wagner and Schnieder money coming off the books, I’d suggest the Mets look to move Carlos Beltran this offseason assuming he is proven healthy. Look to add Matt Holliday and the likes of Carl Crawford, go after another top flight starter to pair with Santana and see if Orlando Hudson is still interested.

Get Young & Patch Things Up...
Submitted by @digitalspit:
Mets should look to get both younger and patch things up. They should patch up the lineup through free agency and keep the farm as is. Don’t deplete it. Sign a RBI guy to play LF or 1B. Keep Murphy at 1B if you shows something the rest of this season. They also need to sign a #2 or #3 pitcher while still working with Maine and Ollie.
Agree or disagree with...

Mets QOTD: Who's On First?
How confident are you in Daniel Murphy at First? Further, Carlos Delgado is a few weeks away from coming back. Last night he worked prior to the game with Murphy on his fielding and lately Murphy’s looked like an actual first baseman…so today’s Mets QOTD is this…Delgado will return this year but are you confident with Murphy on First moving forward in 2010?

Backpage Report: Tuesday, July 28th, The Day After
It’s a little later than usual for this post - but it’s one we couldn’t miss. A quick look at the NY Backpages after the Bernazard/Minaya/Rubin situation exploded at Citi Field.
As would be expected, after a day of controversy and events that errupted yesterday afternoon at Citi Field, the Mets won all three backcover spots. Only the Post featured a shot from the team’s...
Time for the Mets MVP...
Four in a Row. Did you think you’d hear those words a week ago? Well, tonight the Mets won their 4th in a row, so who is your #Mets MVP?
What's that old saying?
“Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice shame on me.” Well, the fact of the matter is Omar & Co. have fooled us more than once or twice, so it’s time for a change @ The Citi.
Now, after two horrific collapses and a season desimated by injuries, and compounded by Omar Minaya’s inept press conference yesterday isn’t it time we bid farewell to Omar & Co.?

Pitch Your Mets T-Shirt Ideas...
Some off day fun…here’s a blank slate let’s hear what you’d like to see on a Mets T-Shirt. Answer in 140 on twitter, long form at http://mrmet.tumblr.com/submit
Thanks to @tweets_mona for getting us started with this: I would like to pitch this to be the next #Mets t-shirt: Front: “New York Mets Fan”. Back: “Well, there’s always next year.”
Mets QOTD: Let's Hear Your Trade Ideas?
Everyone has their own idea on who to trade for whom, and what direction to take the team. So, with a much needed day off and a line-up that seems to need some serious help…let’s hear your ideas for the New York mets as the trade deadline looms.
The Backpage Review, Wednesday July 22nd, 2009
Today’s Backpages show the underlying (and unfortunate) differences between New York’s two professional ballclubs….on one end of town it’s all about Class and the other end its Crass.
It is just too bad the Mets always come up on the wrong end of the spectrum.

Twitter and the Mets
I wonder if the Wilpons, Omar, and other execs are on twitter?
The pulse of the fans is definitely expressed everyday, with even some good suggestions put out there, but I wonder if it’s just us talking amongst ourselves or if it is actually reaching them.
It seems maangement is out of touch and buddy buddy, patting each other on the back saying, well we are doing the best we can. Which is...
Now We Are Beyond Injuries
With the Mets season going the way it has, at some point you just gave to wonder, when things have finally hit bottom? Further, as a fan you have to wonder for how long the Mets ownership will let this team be an embarassment both on and off the field.
It seems that for too long - season after season - the Mets are the laughing stock of the league. Last night, during SNY’s coverage Omar...
The Backpage Review, Tuesday July 21st Edition
Well, with a win last night, you would think that the Mets would pick up at least one Backpage…instead they are just a sidebar and go 0-3 as they were trumped by Matsui and the Yanks.

The Backpage Review, Saturday July 18th Edition
The are two ways you make headlines, you do really well, or you do really poorly…Unfortunatly, as has become the norm for the Mets its for the latter…

Thinking About Maddux's Number Being Retired...
Tonight prior to Mets vs. Braves game, the Braves will retire Greg Maddux’s number.
Which got me to thinking - Maddux and the Braves had some very good years in the 90’s….unlike the Mets. Further, that has me thinking about how we’re all pretty stressed about the current team, and when you take a step back and think about it, over the course of Maddux’s time in the...

Another 'Big' Loss
I don’t like the idea of calling every game, especially the first game of the second half of the season a ‘big’ game. However, with the standings the way they are and the history of the last few seasons it is hard to see each and every game as anything other than an opportunity to advance and start some sort of streak.
Maybe the most frustrating part of tonight’s loss is...

It's get TOUGH time Jerry.....
It’s time for Jerry to stop babying these guys and GET TOUGH. Crack the whip Jerry. They get paid FAR TOO MUCH to NOT RUN OUT EVERY HIT, even the weak ones. TOO much NOT to run out EVERY FLY BALL THAT COMES TO THEM in the field. I’ll do the job for a FRACTION of what they make right now.

Follow-up: Mets Haven't Made Call...
Just a thought, but what if we’re all falling for Omar’s bait…on his lack of trade inquiries.
Stay with me for a second…first, I am not saying that I want Matt Holliday, but I’m just pointing out the realities that exist in communicating with the New York Mets. Sometimes they are anything but forthright, and they play the communications game with expert...

Will the Real D. Wright Please Stand Up?
We discussed this a few months back on Twitter, which MLB players are part of the community. And this morning I noticed that there is a “David Wright” or @DWrightNYM posting on Twitter as David Wright of the New York Mets. But I think this again begs the question of authenticity, and is this really the player who wears #5 for the Mets?
Many of his posts seem legit, commenting on pre...
Madoff Scandal: Impact on the Mets
Can’t help but to think that the Madoff scandal hurt the Mets financially. No wonder, Omar isn’t calling anyone to make a move or inquire????? Pedro to the Phils? The Mets should’ve stepped in and signed him. He’s better than Redding and Nieve.

Mets Second Half Thoughts?
Later today the Mets will resume their schedule for the second half of the season. Let’s hear your thoughts on how things will shape up. http://mrmet.tumblr.com/submit
Pedro You Really Did Nothing in New York
Bottomline line Pedro was non-existent as a Met from June of 2006 onward. He had one fleeting minute in September of 2007, to ride back just in time for the collapse. One could argue, the Mets Pedro induced six man rotation was a part of that collapse.
So in essence Pedro, if you WANTED to be a Met, then money would not have raised the stakes of your ego.
